Building climate action: grassroots organizing in the heart of Alberta – Dr. Joe Vipond

March 14 @ 19:00 - 21:00

Bow Valley Climate Action is delighted to host

Dr. Joe Vipond
Chair, Canadian Association of Physicians for the Environment, Alberta Commitee

for a presentation and discussion on

Building Climate Action: grassroots organizing in the heart of Alberta.

Joe Vipond has worked as an emergency physician in Calgary for nineteen years. In 2012 he became one of the key organizers for the successful Alberta Coal Phase Out campaign, and the subsequent Canadian Coal Phase Out campaign. More recently his interest has turned to citizen engagement and climate literacy, and as such runs three facebook pages, including Alberta Acts on Climate Change, and often reaches upwards of 20,000 people per week. He is the chair of the Canadian Association of Physicians for the Environment, Alberta Committee, which recently successfully advocated for Alberta Health Services to start an office of sustainability. In 2017 he helped found the Calgary Climate Hub, and is its current interim chair. When not doctoring or trying to change the world, he does his best to be a good husband, and dad to his two amazing children, Sadie and Willa.
