Community Innovation Panel: How Can We Reduce Building Emissions Together?

FREE EVENT

Join us on Wednesday March 16th from 7:30pm to 8:30pm for the Community Innovation Panel: “How Can We Reduce Building Emissions Together?” happening virtually over Zoom.

Our homes, commercial buildings and institutional buildings account for approximately 40% to 50% of the total greenhouse gas emissions (GHGs) in Bow Valley communities. Some major policy areas to stimulate GHG emissions reductions must occur at the national and provincial levels, however, there are still numerous actions that local municipal governments, builders, contractors and each of us as individuals can do to contribute towards moving towards a low carbon future in the building sector.

This Community Innovation Panel will present the opportunities and challenges for GHG emissions reductions in the buildings sector and to highlight great examples of how low carbon construction can also be affordable construction!

Panelists:
Kirstin Pulles – Community Organizer, Efficiency Canada
Raphael Spinner – Passive House Designer & Builder – HSS Design Build
Sally Biddlecombe – Municipal Energy Coordinator, Town of Banff

Moderator:
Jodi Conuel, Shift Program Coordinator

Topics this Panel will cover include:

  • What does the federal and provincial policy and funding future look like with respect to reducing building emissions? What does this mean for municipalities, builders and individuals?

  • What is a local example of low-carbon building being used as a tool to promote more affordable long-term housing?

  • What are some solutions and opportunities for builders and developers with respect to reducing building emissions?

  • How can a municipal Sustainable Building Policy guide low-emission building on a local corporate level?

  • Where are the opportunities for collaboration and supporting one another to reduce building emissions to achieve our community climate action goals?
